New MLDL Lab Student Member: Pheba Colfer
The MLDL Lab is pleased to announce that Pheba Colfer will be joining us for spring 2022 semester. She is a junior and majors in Computer Science with a Computer Technology Concentration.
For her EKU study, she said that the most memorable programming project experiences have been the ones she has struggled most with because these difficulties have allowed her to practice her debugging and problem solving abilities. They have also allowed her to develop her teamwork skills because she has accessed EKU’s computer science resources and contacted the professors to better understand the content she was struggling with. For example, She was creating a program in PHP that used a simple substitution cipher and was struggling with unexpected results, but by working with the professor and debugging the code she was able to create a functional program. This is one of the moments which she has never forgotten from her Computer Science study.
Now, she is interested in Artificial Intelligence because of its wide range of applications. Artificial Intelligence can be used for everything from games to shopping recommendations to voice recognition and she said she finds this versatility to be very interesting. She also emphasied that AI is a cornerstone of the digital world, and by understanding AI she can better understand almost all of the technology around her.
She will join the MLDL Lab project, "Feature Analysis for Pet Scam Websites Clustering". She expects to learn how machine learning and data visualization can be applied to real world situations and how it can be used to solve problems.
